Most people who complain that safety glasses are uncomfortable are not wearing safety glasses that fit them. They are wearing safety glasses that fit the guy who ordered the case, in whatever size showed up, and they have been quietly working around it for months. Nose marks, a slide down the bridge every time they lean over, that little gap at the temple where dust gets in anyway. None of that is normal. It is a size problem, and it is usually a five-minute fix once you know what you are checking.
The five-point fit check
Put the glasses on the way you normally would, then run through this before you decide they are fine.
Bridge and nose pads. The frame should rest on your nose without pinching and without you having to push it up every few minutes. If you are pushing the bridge up more than once or twice an hour, the frame is too loose or the nose pads are wrong for your nose shape.
Temple length. The arms should reach your ears without you feeling pressure behind them by hour three. Too short and they will pinch at the temple; too long and the frame rides low and loose, which is the same slide-down problem as a bad bridge fit.
Lens-to-brow gap. Look in a mirror straight on. There should not be a visible gap between the top of the lens and your eyebrow. That gap is exactly where dust, sparks, and flying debris get in over the top of a lens that is technically rated for impact.
Side coverage. Turn your head slightly and check the temple area in the mirror. A properly sized Z87+ frame with side shields should close that gap. If you can see daylight between the frame and your face at the temple, debris can enter from the side, which defeats a lot of what the rating is for.
Stability under motion. Shake your head side to side, then bend forward like you are picking something up off the floor. Glasses that fit should not shift, slide, or need a hand to keep in place. If they do, you have been quietly readjusting them all day without registering it as a problem.

Safety glasses that do not fit are not safety glasses. They are glasses you own that happen to have a rating printed on the arm.
Why "one size" doesn't actually mean one size
A lot of the fit complaints we hear trace back to a simple assumption: that a Z87+ frame comes in one size and that's just how it fits everybody. It doesn't, and the brands that build for wide face ranges usually say so right in the model name. What a bad fit actually causes
Fit problems don't usually show up as "these don't fit." They show up as other complaints that trace back to fit if you follow them.
Constant fogging is one. A frame that sits slightly off your face changes the airflow around the lens, and that changes how fast it fogs, independent of whatever anti-fog coating is on the lens itself. Red marks on the nose or behind the ears at the end of a shift are a temple-length or nose-pad problem, not something you should just accept as part of wearing glasses for eight hours. And the one that actually matters for safety: glasses that slide down when you lean over a tire, a ladder, or a bench are glasses that are not covering your eyes at the exact moment something is most likely to come off that surface and hit you in the face. That's not a comfort issue. That's the rating doing nothing at the moment it's supposed to matter.

Common questions
How do I know if my safety glasses are too big?
They'll slide down your nose without you touching them, the temples won't grip enough to stay put when you tilt your head forward, and you'll find yourself pushing them back up throughout the day. If that's happening consistently, try the same model's XL or wide-fit version, or a different frame built with a narrower base width.
Why do my safety glasses keep sliding down my nose?
Usually the bridge width is too wide for your nose, or the nose pads have worn smooth and lost their grip. Try a frame with adjustable nose pads, or size down if the model offers a narrower option.
Can safety glasses be adjusted to fit better?
Some can. Frames with soft or adjustable nose pads let you pinch them closer for a tighter bridge fit, and some temple designs can be gently reshaped for a better grip behind the ear. Do safety glasses come in different sizes?
