A polarized lens isn't a color. It's a laminated filter sandwiched inside the lens, and that filter is the reason every polarized lens on the market carries at least a hint of tint. A shop tech asking whether a truly clear lens can also be polarized is really asking whether that filter can disappear. It can't, not in any way that would still cut glare.
What the filter is actually doing
Polarized lenses work by blocking light that's been reflected off a flat horizontal surface, the kind of glare that comes off a hood, a wet parking lot, or a windshield. Ordinary daylight scatters in every direction. Light that bounces off a flat surface scatters mostly on one plane, horizontally. The polarizing film inside the lens is built from aligned molecules that only let vertically oriented light pass through, so the horizontal glare gets absorbed before it reaches your eye instead of blasting straight into it. That absorption is the whole mechanism, and absorbing light is, by definition, darkening it. There's no version of that filter that lets every wavelength through unfiltered while still blocking the glare plane. The two jobs work against each other.

Why that means no truly clear polarized lens
Manufacturers have gotten close. A few premium sunglass brands sell a very lightly tinted lens, usually a pale gray or yellow base, that reads as almost clear indoors and still cuts glare outside. But "very light tint" and "clear" are different claims, and nobody in the safety-glasses market, Wiley X, Heat Wave Visual, Smith Optics, Spy Optic, or Oakley Standard Issue included, sells a colorless Z87 lens with a working polarizing filter behind it. If a lens is truly water-clear, it isn't polarized. Mirrored and polarized aren't the same thing either, which is a separate mix-up worth clearing up while we're on the subject, since a lens can carry a mirror coating, a polarizing filter, both, or neither.

How to actually tell if a lens is polarized
If a spec sheet is missing or you're standing in front of a display, there's a fast way to check. Look at a reflective surface, a phone screen works well, or a shiny countertop, through the lens and rotate the glasses about 60 degrees. A polarized lens will show the glare fade in and out as you turn it, because you're rotating the filter's blocking angle relative to the glare's plane. A tinted but non-polarized lens just stays the same darkness no matter how you rotate it. It costs nothing and takes five seconds, and it's a better test than trusting a "polarized-look" label on a box.
What actually solves the underlying problem
The real question behind "can clear lenses be polarized" is usually "I want glare protection outside, but I don't want a dark lens when I walk back into the bay." That's a legitimate problem, and it has two real answers, neither of which is a clear lens that's secretly polarized.
The first is photochromic. Common questions
Can you get truly clear polarized safety glasses?
No. Polarization works by absorbing light on one plane, and absorbing light always adds some tint. The closest thing on the market is a very light base tint that reads as nearly clear, not a colorless lens.
What's the difference between polarized and mirrored lenses?
Mirrored is a reflective coating on the outside of the lens that bounces light away and cuts overall brightness. Polarized is a filter built into the lens itself that blocks one specific angle of glare. A lens can be one, both, or neither, and mirror coatings show up on plenty of non-polarized lenses too.
Are photochromic lenses the same as polarized?
